Meet the Paseo Club's Tennis Pros

Adam Davidson
Tennis Instructor
Adam is a homegrown Valencia native who played tennis at Hart High where he set the record for most singles wins in a season and advanced to the QF of the CIF tournament.
He earned a scholarship to play tennis at Azusa Pacific University, where he played for four years. As team captain in 2005, he led the Cougars to win the school’s first ever NAIA National Championship. He won the prestigious Ojai Valley Invitational twice in doubles (2003, 2005) and once in singles (2004) and was a First Team NAIA All-American selection three times (2003-2005). He and his doubles partner, Sam Fletcher, were ranked #1 in the country for three years (2003-2005). His highest singles ranking was #14 in the country (2003).
After graduating with a bachelor’s in business, Adam turned pro and took his racquets around the world for the next three years, competing on the ATP tour. Traveling to over 35 countries, he notched several victories over top 100 ATP opponents in doubles and reached a career high of #527 in the world. Davidson played two seasons of World Team Tennis for the Sacramento Capitals, where he played alongside the likes of Pete Sampras, Anna Kournakova, Mark Knowles, and the Bryan Brothers.
With 15 years of coaching experience, in addition to a USPTA certification, Adam has coached a wide variety of players — from beginners to several Division I collegiate players. He has a passion for coaching and mentoring players who want to improve in tennis but also glean from it lessons for living a successful life.
Adam charges $95 per private lesson. Contact Adam Davidson.
Raisa Grinberg
Tennis Instructor
Raisa Gurevich was a national tennis champion in Russia at the age of 7 for the under-14 division. She won the European Championship twice at 14 and was a world championship runner up. She turned pro at 14 and ended up as number 8 in ITF juniors in the world. She began to play WTA at 14 and then moved to Spain to Palma de Mallorca where she was coached by Uncle Tony (Rafa’s uncle) for 5 years. Her singles highest was 300 and doubles highest 170.
Raisa retired at 22 due to knees surgeries. She went to Egypt and played there for a year and then came to LA where she worked at Braemar Country Club and Porter Valley Country Club. She has worked at Warners for close to 15 years.
Raisa teaches all ages and all levels. She charges $90 per hour for private sessions. Contact Raisa Gurevich
René Heger
Tennis Director, USPTA Certified Tennis Instructor
René is originally from Germany. He started playing tennis at age seven and immediately fell in love with the sport. Recruited by talent scouts of the BTV (Baden Tennis Federation) at age ten, and with the unrelenting support of his parents, he started traveling to tournaments all over Germany. Winning the local Men’s tournament at age twelve caught the attention of scouts from bigger clubs and René signed a contract with Karlsruher ETV at age 14. Playing during an era where lots of Russian talent played in German higher tier clubs, he got to hit with the likes of Andreij Medvedev, Andrei Cherkasov among others.
It was during the 1994 season preparations that René started to experience lower back spasms, followed by consistent pain in his lower back region. Over the next year the problem continued to worsen and after specialist consultation, René had to finally abandon his pursuit of a professional tennis career at age 17 having barely started playing Challengers.
The biggest win of his youth career was beating Tommy Haas in straight sets at the Baden-Baden Championships. René never lost his passion for tennis and transitioned to coaching over the years. He is certified by the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR), an internationally recognized organization, for “10 and Under” as well as “High Performance.”
René has been coaching at The Paseo Club since December 2018, and has been the Tennis Director of Paseo since 2023.
Rene charges $85 per hour for private training.
Aleksey Zharinov
USPTA Certified Tennis Instructor
A native of Siberia, Russia, Aleksey was a top-ten junior in the country. He came to the US to go pro but decided to attend college instead. He played #1 singles for the University of Minnesota, helping the team to climb to the #8 spot in the country.
Aleksey traveled all over the US to play professional tournaments, eventually achieving ATP ranking in the summer of 2004. He participated in two exhibition doubles matches (St. Paul, MN 2003, and Grand Forks, ND 2004) against the former #1 doubles team in the world the Jensen brothers. The first match also featured Monica Seles and Anna Kournikova, and the second match was between Andy Roddick and Andre Agassi.
Since 2005, Aleksey has been coaching in numerous country clubs as well as full-time at Lifetime Club in Minneapolis. In 2006, he received the “USPTA Northern Section Junior Development Coach of the Year” award. Aleksey has been working at the Paseo Club since 2012 raising half a dozen Division 1 and 3 college players during that time. Aleksey’s specialty is technique, and along with helping juniors establish proper fundamentals, has been helping many adults to do the same. He has drills almost every day for different levels of players, who want to tap into their full potential.
His private lesson rate is $95 per hour.
