The weather is warming up, and summer is just around the corner. Staying cool is imperative — especially in the Santa Clarita Valley! And the best way to do that is by spending time at the pool.

Learning to swim and be water-wise is necessary for all children and adults. Plus, swimming provides a lifetime of fun and diversion. Very little is as delightful as lazy days by the pool with friends, food, and swimming!

Is your child uncomfortable getting into a pool? Do they need to learn the four basic strokes? Would they like to improve their skills and get involved in competitive swimming? If so, then these swim schools are a great option for you.

The Paseo Club is a social club in the Santa Clarita Valley with tennis, pickleball, fitness, and swimming facilities. We teamed up with Dorado Swim to provide swim lessons to the SCV community at our junior Olympic pool. But Dorado is not the only option!

In this article, you will learn who provides swim lessons in the area. We will discuss what ages they work with, their philosophies, and how to get in touch with them to learn more.

Santa Clarita’s summers are hot and dry — and swimming is the perfect antidote to beat the heat. But learning how to swim isn’t just about having fun. It is an essential safety skill. Drowning is the number one killer of toddlers in America, which is why many organizations are striving to make swimming the first sport your child learns.

Every child and adult must possess the basic skills to protect themselves in water and reduce the risk of drowning and aquatic-related injuries.

Below are the companies that offer swim lessons in Santa Clarita listed in alphabetical order.

Academy Swim Club

Academy Swim Club is a family-owned business that has operated since 1985. They teach year-round, so your child’s lessons don’t need to end when the summer does. Their philosophy is to “play with purpose.”
They offer several types of lessons — private, semi-private, and group lessons to beginners through swim team competitors. They have locations in Valencia and Newhall and teach at your home pool.
They offer a tuition assistance program for new and repeat clients.

AquaMobile Private Swimming Lessons are for families who want their child or children to learn how to swim in the privacy of their own at-home pool. You can select the instructor of your choice based on your child’s specific needs and personality. Lessons are 30 minutes, 1 hour, 1.5 hours, and 2 hours long. You can even hire a lifeguard for a party or swim event.

Canyon’s Swim School

Canyon’s Swim School is located at the College of the Canyons. They offer a wide variety of swim programs. They teach Summer Splash Lessons, a two-week-long class for swimmers to have fun and learn skills. They also offer a monthly membership where kids attend lessons twice per week.

Lessons are for 3-12-year-olds, with six different levels to choose from. There are three to six students per class, depending on the level. They also offer private lessons. Swim lessons are available in the mornings and afternoons.

City of Santa Clarita Aquatic Center

The City of Santa Clarita Aquatic Center offers four levels of swim lessons, plus a competitive stroke program. Classes are for three to eleven-year-olds. Lessons are taught in two-week increments on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. They offer assessments so you can learn what level is best for your child.

The City of Clarita also offers teen and adult swim lessons if you or an older child want to finesse your strokes.

Dorado Swim at the Paseo Club was developed in 2019 by the coaches of Paseo Aquatics as a learn-to-swim program for newcomers to the pool. They strive to teach water safety while in a fun and enjoyable environment. Their philosophy is based on four pillars: awareness, skills, knowledge, and practice.

Dorado Swim teaches swimming to kids of all levels and offers private and semi-private lessons. You can choose from a two-day or four-day-a-week schedule. Registration is now open.

InstaSwim

InstaSwim provides private in-home swim lessons. Your child can get one-on-one instruction with lessons based on their skills and pace. Instructors are certified and have at least two years of experience teaching life-saving skills in swimming and drowning prevention. They have also undergone background checks.

The instructors teach infants, toddlers, kids, and adults. They recommend 10-12 lessons to learn basic water skills. They have flexible scheduling and will customize your child’s lessons according to your needs and goals. They offer a satisfaction guarantee.

Mr. Jordan Swims

Mr Jordan Swims is owned and operated by certified instructor Jordan Phillip Thomas. He has taught in the SCV for over ten years and has trained thousands of kids how to swim. Your child can join him for classes, or he will come to you and your pool. He teaches at several pools throughout Santa Clarita, so there is surely one close to you.

He teaches children as young as six months, children who have had negative past experiences and kids with mental and/or physical disabilities. He emphasizes “positive reinforcement so that every child leaves his class feeling confident and safe in the water.” Mr. Jordan offers private lifeguarding services for parties and teaches individuals how to become lifeguards.

Sunsational Swim School is a coast-to-coast provider of swim lessons at community and private pools. They are the largest mobile swim school in the US, with several instructors that serve the Santa Clarita Valley. You can read the teachers' bios and select the one you like best. All the teachers are certified and have undergone background checks.

They offer a 12-lesson “Learn to Swim Guarantee.” They find that private lessons save the child and parents time and are the most efficient way to learn to swim.

They teach children six months and older, teens, and adults. They serve autistic individuals and others with physical and developmental disabilities. Sunsational also has a competitive swim program for more advanced swimmers.

Swim 4 Kimmie

Swim 4 Kimmie is run by local mom, triathlete, and teacher Kimmie Frithsmith and her staff of four experienced instructors. Kimmie has over 23 years of teaching experience. She developed a specialized swimming program that provides ten 15-minute private lessons within two weeks. She finds this method gets your child having fun and safe around water.

She teaches four levels: Parent and Me, Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. You can meet her at one of the private pools she works at or host her at your own pool. After your child completes the two-week swim session, they can attend 15 or 30-minute weekly lessons to further advance their skills. Lessons are taught from May through August.

Waterworks Swim School Santa Clarita

Waterworks Swim School Santa Clarita is located in LA Fitness. The indoor pool allows for year-round lessons. Classes are taught to 2.5-year-old children through adults. They offer private, semi-private, adult, and parent & me lessons. Lessons are 20 minutes long, with the option of scheduling back-to-back lessons for a total of 40 minutes. They recommend a minimum of two lessons per week to optimize your child’s progress.

Waterworks teaches an adaptive swim program for children with special needs. All lessons are 1-on-1 or 1-on-2 until your child reaches level 8 or higher and is five or older. Then they are eligible to join the Strokes Clinic, which allows them to work on improving their skills in a group environment.
