Cancer. It is one of the scariest diagnoses a person could ever receive. For many of us, it is our worst nightmare. Yet some people are living this nightmare, faced with a great unknown with months, or even years, of treatment ahead of them.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, an annual event to bring attention to this disease and fundraise for a cure for people living with breast cancer.
The Paseo Club is not just a fitness facility — it is a social club. That means we are a center for people in the Santa Clarita Valley who value health, wellness, and community.
We offer a range of resources for working out, eating, and relaxing, but we also get involved in our community by supporting charities and participating in fundraising events.
The cause to fight breast cancer is an important one to the Paseo Club because members, friends, and family have faced this illness. We are bringing attention to breast cancer as a way to express our care for the Santa Clarita Valley community at-large.
In this article, we will share with you all of the steps that the Paseo Club is taking to support breast cancer awareness and how you can get behind the cause too.
Why is breast cancer awareness important to the Paseo community?
Many of us have known someone who has battled breast cancer, so we have personal experience with this disease. It’s a cause that we can all get behind to fight.
Our community is close-knit. It is important to us, the members of our club, and the locals who live and work in the Santa Clarita Valley to rally together for this cause.
We always lend a hand to issues where we can work together with others to help make our community stronger.
What are the ways that Paseo is bringing attention to breast cancer awareness?
Valencia High School girls’ volleyball shirts
The Paseo Club has partnered with Valencia High School to purchase shirts for the girls' volleyball team. Beginning in October, the girls will wear pink shirts to all games as an effort to bring more awareness to the fight against breast cancer.
DJ cycle ride
On Friday, October 14 instructor Cezanne Youmazzo will host a cycle class at 5 pm for a $15 donation. The ride will have curated music from a live in-studio DJ. Get your sweat on!
Member Mixer
On October 14, the same night as the DJ cycle ride, is the Pink Out Party! Enjoy specialty drinks and appetizers and buy tickets for our raffle to win great prizes.
The Pink Out Party is from 6-9 pm.
Step pop-up
On Friday, October 21 the Paseo Club will host a pop-up step class from 6-7:15 pm. Burn calories and build muscle while exercising with others to fundraise for cancer research.
The suggested donation is $15 and remember to wear pink to show your support for breast cancer awareness!
Proceeds from these three events will go to the City of Hope. The City of Hope is a comprehensive cancer center dedicated to caring for patients in all stages of treatment by providing world-class technologies and services.
Final steps to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death for women worldwide.
In 2022 the American Cancer Society estimates that 287,850 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. It is expected that 43,250 women will die of breast cancer.
Although medicine has made dramatic progress in treating cancer, there is still a long way to go to find a cure.
The Paseo Club, along with your help, hopes to make a small gesture by supporting local organizations that assist women with breast cancer and conduct research to cure breast cancer.
The Paseo Club is committed to teaming up with others to help better the Santa Clarita Valley community. We support all people in their quest for health and wellness.
