The Top 4 running groups in the Santa Clarita Valley

December 18th, 2023 | 3 min. read

By Jen Azevedo

Among some circles, running groups have a reputation for being designated only for the experienced and fast, making them elitist or exclusive.

But the truth is, joining a running group can benefit both experienced and novice runners — no matter how far or fast you go.

Running groups are a great way to participate in group exercise. You can meet new runners, learn new routes, and maybe after you’ve clocked the miles, hit the brew pub together for some IPAs.

In this article, you will learn what a running group is, the benefits of belonging to a running group, and what running groups are available in the Santa Clarita Valley.

IMG_9446What is a running group?

A running group is a group of people who come together to celebrate their love of running. Teams are often community-minded and will meet regularly to run together in their local area, incorporating distances for events or even organizing their event.

What are the benefits of joining a running group?

There are several benefits to running — but it can be a lonely sport.

By joining a running group, you belong to a team you can celebrate with. Research shows that having friends who make healthy nutrition and fitness choices positively influences your own — resulting in better health and increased longevity.

  • Camaraderie
  • Learn new routes
  • More accountability
  • Peers to challenge you
  • Increased sense of connectedness

Newcomers can learn tips and tricks on everything from buying the best running shoes to cool routes to technique and injury prevention. Experienced runners can mentor the newbies and stay on track with their goals. Creating a team spirit can propel any runner to greater heights.

Everyone is welcome to join most running groups. You may or may not have the same pace or race goals as everyone involved, but you can still be a part of the community and enjoy the spirit of the group.

Running on your own is challenging. You have to choose your run, maintain your motivation, and keep up with your hoped-for pace.

Belonging to a running group can inspire you and make running more enjoyable. Group exercise helps people exercise harder and more frequently.

The Santa Clarita Valley boasts four running groups. If you are unsure which group is the right fit for you, meet with each one for a run and see how it goes.

If you want to build mobility and cross-training into your fitness program, then consider checking out the Paseo Club by scheduling a tour.
