Tennis at the Paseo Club: What Real Players Have to Say

November 18th, 2024 | 4 min. read

By Paseo Club Team

The Paseo Club started as a tennis club in Valencia over twenty years ago. As time has passed, the club expanded to include more and more diverse services, including Pilates, fitness classes, pickleball, a spa, and more.

Tennis continues to be an essential component of the club with drop-in and reserved play, drills, leagues, tournaments, and a junior program. You have likely read some blog posts about tennis because we are so excited to share with you the opportunities available to you as a Paseo Club member.

But we recognize you may be tired of listening to us tout our tennis department. There is nothing like learning about something from real people — not the folks who sell the service.

Therefore, in this article, we asked Paseo Club members to talk about their experiences playing tennis at the club. You will hear from a diverse array of voices, including experienced players, newbies, and a parent of a youth in the junior program. Read on and get the information you need to know right from the source.

Greg Straub, Paseo Club Ambassador and competitive player

“I have been a member for almost eight years and joined the Paseo Club specifically because of the focus on tennis. Many California facilities emphasize golf, and tennis becomes secondary.

Over the past few years, the organization of tennis activities, the opportunities for dedicated coaching, and the USTA teams have allowed me to participate regularly in the sport I enjoy. More specifically, another member addressed the organization of play a few years ago. Beer league on Wednesday nights, weekend warrior play on the weekends, and now mixed doubles nights on Tuesday have been well run, inclusive of anyone who wants to play, and welcoming to new members.

I have not only had regular opportunities to play competitive tennis but have met many new members. My circle of friends has grown, and this organization has allowed me to be at the club almost daily. I am truly appreciative of the club for the tennis pros and the other members who take the time every day to organize and communicate with all of us. Combined, these actions give the Paseo Club the great reputation it has earned. Thank you."

“The adult starter tennis class at the Paseo Club is an important introduction to tennis. Whether you have never played before or need to brush up on your skills, the class is an integral step. Starters tennis drill helps you to familiarize and/or reeducate yourself with the necessary skills to learn and play the game in the Paseo Club’s unique social atmosphere.

Since I started the program, I have begun to find the confidence I need to play social games with the many friends I have made as a result of participating in this class. Not only is the class informative, but the many drills and practices with other members at the same level make it a safe, friendly, and most importantly, a FUN-filled learning environment and experience!

I strongly endorse and recommend you join in and attend this class!”

"I can’t say enough about the tennis starter class and Coach KP! It’s not only a great introduction to the game of tennis, but it’s a wonderful gateway to the club and its members.

I never thought I would have so much fun learning how to play tennis and meeting great people to learn and play with. These newfound friendships encouraged us to take advantage of other classes and social events together! If you’re new to tennis, need a refresher, or are just new to the club itself, the tennis starter class is an incredible way to get started at the Paseo Club!"

“Rene’s drill class is all about building the agility and quick reaction speed needed to move swiftly in any direction the game requires. He breaks down the essential skills of the sport and has you practice them repeatedly until they become part of your muscle memory, enhancing your performance.

Rene keeps the drills fresh and challenging, never repeating the same one, so you're always pushed to work at your highest level. This approach builds confidence on the court, improving your racket speed and helping you stay focused on both the player and the ball.”

Robert Buszek, Tennis player and league member

“Beer League offers a welcoming and competitive environment. They are a fun way to meet friendly people, get in a workout, and improve your game.”

“I was hesitant to take private lessons, but it's been the best decision I've made for my tennis game. Personalized feedback, flexible scheduling, and a supportive coach have helped me achieve remarkable progress. Thank you Coach Rene for all your help.”

Vijay Shivaswamy, Father of tennis player in the Junior Program

“Our experience with the Junior Program has been nothing short of exceptional! From the very beginning, the coaches have shown incredible dedication and expertise in nurturing young talent. My child has not only improved their tennis skills remarkably but also developed a deep love for the game.

The program's supportive environment and well-structured training sessions make it a perfect choice for any young aspiring tennis player. We couldn't be happier with the progress and the fun my child has had along the way. I highly recommend this program to any parent looking to give their child a fantastic tennis foundation.”

Tennis is a fun, challenging, and intellectual sport that can be learned at almost any age. In fact, learning new activities keeps us fitter and our minds more nimble!

Tennis at the club is not just for hitting the ball around with a friend — although you can do that too. You can join a league to get social competitive play, take a drill to improve your skills, or work with a pro instructor one-on-one to finesse your technique.

Tennis tournaments happen every season. You can keep an eye out for them by looking at the seasonal events calendar. They fill up quickly, so do not delay in reserving your spot! However, tournaments are not the only social event you can participate in. Check out Line and Wine, Karaoke, Wine Down Wednesday, and other fun gatherings.

Join today and enjoy all eight acres of our club. Work out, socialize, relax, and repeat. The Paseo Club is your home away from home.
