By Paseo Club Team

If you have been around the Paseo Club for any length of time, you know there are dozens of ways to work out on the premises. From time in the gym or the pool to a match on the courts, you can always find a way to be active.

Two of the Paseo Club's most popular options are group exercise classes and small group training. Both programs offer several types of fitness classes for you to choose from.

This article will describe each program, what classes are available, and their pros and cons so you can choose the best option.

What is small group training?

Small group training is a collection of fitness classes that are small in size — eight or fewer people. Classes are for people of all fitness levels. Each class builds on the ones prior, so you continue to get stronger and fitter each week.

Many classes are offered ongoing. However, there are also some new, fresh picks. These sessions take place in the Tribe room and the Pilates room.

What small group training is available?

The Paseo Club selects a diverse and inspiring collection of small group training classes each season. Many of the classes are tried and true classics, while others are exciting new options that will keep you on your toes.

Here is a listing of what is available during the Season of Gratitude in 2024.

Tribe Functionally Fit

Tribe Functionally Fit is a mainstay program at the Paseo Club because it is perfectly designed for tennis and pickleball players and anyone else who needs a comprehensive fitness program. Low-impact functional exercises ensure you achieve fitness for life. Decrease body fat and increase energy levels, cardiovascular fitness, and functional movement.

Paseo Tribe Core Strength is a training program developed to target your core.

Learn to train the muscles around your pelvis, hips, back, and abdomen, starting from the deep torso muscles. Slim your waistline and get firm, strong abs. Tribe Core Strength also incorporates flexibility and stability training to achieve pain-free movement.

Tribe HIIT Core

This small group program combines two great options into one. This class is half Tribe Extreme HIIT and half Tribe Core Strength. Tribe Extreme HIIT is a strength and endurance high-intensity interval training conditioning program. Tribe Core Strength helps tone, strengthen, and stabilize your core. Increase your strength and endurance, burn fat and calories, and get functional, full-body results.

Blood Flow Restriction Training

Blood Flow Restriction Training (BFRT) helps you get leaner, more toned, and stronger while using less weight in half the time. This class is great for those who want to lose weight fast and keep it off, strengthen their cardio system, perform better, and rehab faster from surgery. BFRT was developed based on a scientific discovery.

Pilates Reformer Blood Flow Restriction Training

This class brings the scientific method of Blood Flow Restriction Training to reformer Pilates for a full-body lengthening and strengthening class. BFRT helps you achieve results faster. If you want to get fit and rehab better, come to Pilates BFRT class.

What are the benefits of small group training?

Small group training offers several benefits that are unique and effective.

  • Research shows that training with a coach improves outcomes.
  • Small class size means you get ample personalized attention, which helps with your progress and technique.
  • A small group environment facilitates connection and mutual support among members and boosts accountability.
  • Small group training classes are fun. You get to know your coach and “swolemates,” and benefit from the welcoming camaraderie.
  • Each class is constructed to build on the ones prior. This approach helps you get a little stronger, a little faster, and have a little more endurance each week you attend.

comp_IMG_9796What are the drawbacks?

Small group training classes are great for people who want intelligently designed fitness programs in a small group setting. However, there are a few drawbacks to consider.

  • Small group training costs extra. Classes cost $16-25 per class, depending on the package purchase.
  • There are a limited number of small group training classes available, which means they may not work with your schedule.
  • Not all forms of fitness are available as a small group class. For example, there are no small group yoga or cycle programs.

comp_IMG_8744What are the benefits of group exercise classes?

Group exercise classes are a great fit for almost every member. You can attend classes as your primary method of being active or cross-train with your favorite sport.

  • The large number of coaches gives you exposure to different styles and approaches.
  • There are so many classes you are sure to find ones that work well with your schedule.
  • There are multiple cardio, strength, and mobility classes, so you can hit all areas of your body.
  • The diversity of group exercise classes means you never get bored and can always challenge yourself in new and exciting ways.

What are the drawbacks?

The diversity of the group exercise classes is a huge draw, but they are not without disadvantages.

  • You will get less attention and guidance.
  • Beginners may find it hard to learn the movements.
  • The classes can be full — upwards of twenty-plus people.
  • Classes are not progressive‚ they may not get harder or more complex.
  • You may experience less connection and camaraderie within your group exercise class due to its larger size.
  • An instructor in a group exercise class cannot always aid people who need to scale or adjust movements due to injury or limitation.
