The 6 benefits of joining a private club

January 8th, 2024 | 3 min. read

When people think of private clubs, they often associate these clubs with being substantially expensive, posh, snobby, and populated exclusively with celebrity members.

But that is not the case. Private clubs are often family-focused hubs with members who have similar interests and hobbies. Private clubs can be a great fit for many people — whether you are a golf enthusiast, fitness junkie, or just love to have a comfortable place to relax outside of your home and office.

The Paseo Club is a private social club in Santa Clarita Valley that has operated for twenty years. We offer tennis, pickleball, swim, and fitness facilities and classes.

In this article, we will share what a private club is, what types of private clubs exist, and the benefits of becoming a member at a private club.

A private club is a place to meet and socialize with other members and enjoy certain services and amenities. They provide a haven for shared interests, a space to engage in select activities, and a sanctuary for relaxation.

Private clubs do come with fees attached — initiation fees, monthly dues, and sometimes other financial commitments. The club is accessible only to paying members and is not a free or public space.

Typically, private clubs are centered around golf, fitness, yachts, or other health-related activities

Some clubs are visible and active in the community, like the Paseo Club, while other private clubs are designed to be private. Members enjoy anonymity, their names and identities hidden. Anything that requires a separate source of inclusion can be a private club.

1. Exclusivity

Possessing a membership to a private club ensures high-quality services, facilities, and staff. Everyone who comes through the doors of a private club is a member or a guest of a member. Private clubs are designed to help make the members feel special and engaged.

2. Connection

Becoming a member of a private club helps you meet members with similar interests, values, and goals. Social events such as member mixers or charity fundraisers help you to meet others at the club, expanding your network. They are great places to make friends, workout buddies, and work contacts.

Private clubs function as the “third place” in your life. If you are not at home or work, then you are at the club. Many clubs feature exercise facilities, dining areas, and inviting locations to socialize and relax. (Bonus if there is an on-site spa!)

4. One Spot for All

When you are a member of a private club, you have access to every option at your club. You aren’t forced to bounce from place to place to find all the outlets you and your family are searching for. Instead, membership allows you an all-inclusive experience — one place for everything. At the Paseo Club, that means one home for court activities, fitness classes, swimming, and social time!

5. Consistent Quality

Private clubs are not your neighborhood gym with old equipment and inexperienced staff. Belonging to a private club ensures you are provided consistently with the best services and amenities. You can rest assured that all aspects of the club will be top-notch, from the state-of-the-art exercise equipment and knowledgeable staff to the dining facilities and childcare center.

A good quality private club will not only provide services for their adult members, but also the “junior members” too. Childcare is essential when you are exercising or socializing. As kids get older, they will want to be just like mom and dad. Kids' fitness programs help them to learn healthy habits and safe techniques. Look for youth tennis, golf, weight lifting, pickleball, and other fun classes.

Selecting the right private club for you

If you are considering becoming a member of a private club, make sure to research the options in your area. Schedule a tour with the club and come prepared with a list of questions.

  • What are the fees at the club?
  • What amenities do they provide?
  • What are the exercise areas like?
  • What social events are available?
  • Do they have spa or dining facilities?
  • Do you have childcare or programs for children?
  • Can I put my membership on hold or end my membership?
