Adding cardio to your gym workout during Covid-19

If you live in Los Angeles County, you know it's been way too long since you got to workout indoors. There are a few gyms such as The Paseo Club that have adapted and modified their outdoor space to accommodate gym goers, but the biggest challenge fitness people face is the lack of cardio machines available during the pandemic. If you’ve searched to buy used or new fitness equipment, you’d know that purchasing new is far and few between, and most almost every used item is overpriced. A quick work-around is to incorporate a physical commute to your daily workout.

Depending on your location (most gym members live within 5 miles of their home club), start thinking about commuting by either walking, jogging, or even cycling. Cycling is great for cardio and if you have your bike at the gym after your workout, why not take a detour on the way home. By burning more calories and kick starting your metabolism before your weight training session, the average person will see better results since you’ve already commenced your workout.

What will I need?

It all depends on how close you are to your home gym. If you are a few miles, try lacing up your sneakers and head on over with a fast walk, or jog to get your heart rate elevated. If you’re ready to dust off the bike, ensure your tires are pumped up, you have supplies to fix any flat tires, throw on a helmet and you’re good to go. If you live too far from your home gym, try and seek out local shared path trails near your gym. You could always drive to your gym and utilize a trail network for some cardio. Trying to fit in gym time and work? Take the stairs if you’re back at the office, or even get up every 45 minutes from your home office and walk around the house.

What Are some of the benefits of Cardio?

  1. Improves your cardiovascular health and helps fight against disease.
  2. Lowers blood pressure, helps combat blood sugar.
  3. Aids to reduce chronic pain.
  4. Helps with sleep and body recovery.
  5. Kick starts metabolism and helps reduce weight.
  6. Strengthens the immune system.
  7. Helps promote a positive mood and reduces stress.
