Calcutta is a betting tennis tournament. You sign up and are placed on a team by the Tournament Director. Each team has a captain that will determine the roster for each match, but each player will play three 8 game pro sets on Saturday and again on Sunday.
Players sign up with a partner or we will help pair them with another member
The cost is $30 and includes dinner Friday, continental breakfast and snacks Saturday and Sunday
Players are placed on a team with other players by the Tournament Director
There are as many as 8 teams in Calcutta. Each team will have multiple doubles teams on them – as many as 4 doubles teams per team
On Friday evening at 6:30 pm, there will be a Betting Party.
All teams will be auctioned off to the highest bidder.
95% of the money raised in the auction will go towards prize money for the winning teams.
Each player has the chance to buy into a portion of the team that is purchased and if all the players buy in, then the players will earn half the prize money and the person or syndicate who bought the team will win the other half
A syndicate is a group that pools their money together to purchase a team or teams.
After the auction the round robin will be drawn.
On Saturday, morning, 4 teams drawn will play in the morning session (9am-12pm) and the other 4 teams will play in the afternoon session (1pm -4pm)
During each session, each player will play an 8 game pro set against each team in their group, no ad scoring with a tiebreak if the score gets to 7 games all. A total of three 8-game pro sets will be played by all the players.
The teams who win the most games will move on to the main draw finals on Sunday. The teams who win the fewest games will go into the consolation finals on Sunday.
On Sunday, the consolation teams will play at 9:00 am and the main draw teams will play at 1:00 pm.
